Descripción

The study of the flux of secondary particles generated by cosmic rays and their interaction with ground-level detectors constitutes a key tool for research in astroparticle physics, geophysics, space weather, and emerging techniques such as muography.

During this workshop, two fundamental simulation tools were addressed: ARTI and Meiga, which together allow a complementary modeling of the complete process, from the arrival of cosmic rays at the Earth’s atmosphere to the detection of muons within complex structures.

ARTI (Atmospheric Radiation Transport Interface) is a framework developed by the LAGO Collaboration. Its main functionality is to simulate the flux of secondary particles at ground level produced by the interaction of primary cosmic rays with the atmosphere. ARTI automates the incorporation of realistic atmospheric models and geomagnetic-field corrections, organizing the simulation workflow into modular stages that generate data catalogs containing detailed information on particle spectra, directions, and types.

Meiga, in turn, is a framework designed to simulate the propagation of muons through materials and their detection by sensor-based systems, such as SiPMs. Built on the Geant4 toolkit and developed within the MuAr project, Meiga focuses on muography applications. Its modular C++ design enables efficient integration with ARTI outputs, supporting advanced studies of particle transport, energy deposition, pulse profiles, and detection efficiency.
